Diving into the Surface

What does it mean to immerse oneself in something that promises no depth? The surface — of light, of glass, of fabric — is not an obstacle here, but the very site of encounter. A threshold where the fleeting leaves its trace and the invisible becomes visible.
The starting point is a series of Polaroids, taken with a violet-tinted film from the Reclaimed Series. Two of the images were made during the white nights — nights in which darkness never falls and time stretches in strange ways. The scanned photographs were combined with text fragments from Sara Stridsberg’s novel Beckomberga — a story about an alcoholic father and his daughter, who visits him in the psychiatric institution. What the author weaves in throughout is light: the light that falls differently in each moment of the narrative, that carries the seasons and lends something breathable to the weight of the story.
